Come join us for an exciting 3 days as we learn more about Promoting the Gospel to a lost world.

What are you PROMOTING ?

Last week and this week we as Americans have had the pleasure of watching and listening to politicians from both political parties on why we should vote for their canidate.  Whether you are Democrat or Republican your goal is to promote your views so someone will vote for your canidate.

In November LaGrange Baptist will host the Promoting the Gospel ConferenceJohn Dickson will be our speaker.

In his book “Promoting the Gospel” he points out that one of our goals in gospel preaching-and gospel promoting- is to help our neihghbors acknowledge that Jesus is God’s Messiah.

I wonder, if we as believers in Christ were as vocal and excited about telling people about Jesus as the delagates of our two political parties are about their canidates.  How different would our communities be?

Here is a tool you may want to use to promote the gospel to a friend.

Have you left anything behind for your faith?

Jesus called His first disciples at the seashore and challenged them to “follow me”.  The Bible tells us that “immediately they dropped their nets and followed Him”.

These first disciples left everything and followed after Jesus.

Last night while reading the news at

I ran across a story of Mosab Hassan Yousef.

He is the son of one of the leading men in Hamas in the West Bank.  Mosab left his family and followed after Christ.hamas_son  Read his story at the following link. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,402483,00.html

What a story.  With the tensions between the USA and Islamic groups, here is a young man who comes to the States and gives his life to Christ.  Does it cost something to be a follower of Jesus?  Yes it does!

I am challenged to consider what am I giving up for the Gospel.  How about you?

What a RACE!!

olympics_logoLast night I was watching the Olympic’s with my wife and the 4×200 freestyle finals were on.  The French team was the heavy favorite and the USA was led by Michael Phelps who pursuing 8 gold medals in the years Games.  As the race progressed the French team built a big lead and by the time the swimmers of the last leg of the race hit the water France was leading the USA by a full body length which is huge in swimming.  As the the last leg progressed the USA swimmer continued to press forward.  He cut into the lead at the turn and closed the gap and out touched the French swimmer by .004 of a second and win the GOLD medal.  He continues to press on toward the prize.

This causes me to think about what am I pressing forward towards?  How about you?  The Apostle Paul wrote, “I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus”.  Are we pressing toward that goal, that prize? The Olympics occur every four years and there are many human interest stories and we all seem to get caught up in the pursuit of GOLD.  Let me challenge you this Olympic year with a thought.  Ask yourself this, “How am I doing in pursuing the prize that God has for me?” picto_olympic

Glad there aren’t any mistakes

flag_stampToday I was reading news at fnc_logo  and came across an article about a mistake on a stamp displaying the USA flag.  It seems that the artist added one extra white stripe (read about it at http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,398901,00.html ).

This caused me to think about Promoting the Gospel.  When we promote the gospel we use God’s word, the Bible, as our reference.  We can be sure that there are no errors like in the picture of the flag.  In John chapter 17 Jesus is praying and he says in verse 17 that God’s word is truth.  In other words there is no mistakes to be caught later.  We can be confident when we promote the gospel that what we promote is true and sure because God’s word is true.

How are you doing?

 a comment

Are you ever asked this question?  Or how often do you ask it of someone else?  I must admit too often I answer this question with the answer “great or fine” and not really be great or fine.  Also, when I ask the question to someone else I really don’t want a lomg answer from them.

Today I was looking through C.J. MaHaney book “The Cross Centered Life” and was reminded of a great truth.  Let me just quote from C.J.

cross_centered_bible“Ask me how I’m doing on any given day and you might be surprised by my response.  I don’t give the typical ‘I’m great or fine, thanks!’  Instead I say, ‘Better than I deserve.’  It catches people off guard.  Many times non-Christians have argued with me, convinced that I suffer from low self-esteem.  But no–I just understand who I am and where I deserve to be.  I deserve God’s wrath.  Honestly, I deserve to be in hell.  But instead I God’s child.  I’m forgiven and loved by Hiom.  I’m going to heaven.  I’m doing much better than I deserve!”

How about you?  Does this hit home?  It does me.  What does this have to do with Promoting the Gospel you may ask?  A bunch.  You see the Gospel isn’t just for non-Christians but it is for Christians as well.  As Jerry Bridges writes, “Everyday of our Christian experience should be a day of relating to God on the basis of His grace alone.  We are not only saved by grace, but we also live by grace every day.”

This is why the gospel is truly the main thing.

So how about you, how are you doing?  Better than you deserve?  I know I am!!

The gospel download

I was reading today from a book called “promoting the Gospel” by John Dickson.

Do you remember when you first was saved and you wanted to share Christ with everyone and would dive into evangelistic conversations with people whether they wanted to listen or not?  Dickson explains in this book that when he was young in his faith he felt it was his responsibility to download everything he knew into every conversation.  This can seem overwhelming to each of us if we think this way.  But the reality is we do not have to do this.  Yes we are to be ready to share our faith but let me share from Dickson and his advice.ptg_cover1

“In reality, most of our opportunities to speak about Christianity will occur in passing, in the to-and-fro of daily conversation.  it should not surpise us then that the two clearest passages in the Bible calling on each of us to speak up for the Lord urger us simply to ‘answer’ for the Faith–to respond to people’s comments, questions or criticisms with an apt and gracious reply”  (The passages are Colossians 4:5-6 and 1 Peter 3:15)

So some encouragement as you consider promoting the gospel to those around you.  Be a good listener and realize you don’t have to know the answer to every question just be readiy to share.

Tony Snow’s passing

tony_snowThis past Saturday morning Tony Snow, former Press Secretary for President Bush and Fox News personality passed away from colan cancer.  I personally enjoyed listening to Tony on the radio and TV and will miss his commentary and reports.

Why do I mention this?  The reason is what Cal Thomas said about him in an interview this past weekend.  He mentioned Tony’s faith in Jesus Christ.  Yes Tony Snow was a Christian and actively shared his faith.  Read the article attached thru this link.  http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2044384/posts

This BLOG is about promoting the gospel.  Tony Snow promoted the gospel through his life and death.  I pray I will do the same.

38 college students in clearwater beach!!!

My family and I are vacationing hear in Clearwater Beach, FL.  Why Clearwater Beach?  My daughter Ashley is spending her Summer here on a Summer Project with Campus Crusade for Christ.  For 13 weeks 38 college students have come here and found jobs and spend time working, being discipled by CCC staff and doing outreach on the weekends.  It has been exciting to listen to these students talk about opportunities they have had the first 6 weeks, telling others about Christ.  Ashley called home the first week because she was so excited that she and a guy got to share the Four Spiritual Laws with a man on the beach.  http://www.greatcom.org/english/four.htm
